Software:
Software choice is often very personal, and there are so many free and paid-for options across multiple platforms. It is often worth trying a few different packages to find what works for you. A simple search of 'Best free photo editor' or 'best free vector design software'. Of course there are loads of apps for iPad & Android tablets too which tend to be cheap (for how good they are) and usually have a trial available. Adobe software is one of the industry standards so I would recommend making full use of its availability to you as a Graphic Design student at Ballakermeen.
As a Graphics student in Years 10 to 13, in school you will have access to Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator. You should also have access to the full suite of appropriate Adobe apps which can be accessed at home by firstly downloading Creative Cloud then logging in with your Adobe ID. (which is NOT your Google log-in) If your school computer login is 13JohnSmith then your login credentials for Adobe software would be:
Sign-in: 13JohnSmith@student.sch.im
Password is the same as you log into the computers with at school.
Photopea.com is a powerful online photo-editing package very similar to Photoshop. It is completely free - though there are adverts down the side - and is powerful enough for most tasks we would do in school. Clearly, being online, you require an internet connection, and you must remember to save your work too before closing the window. Being browser based, it is accessible from any device without any installation. There are many tutorials on Youtube, including https://www.youtube.com/c/PhotopeaPro/videos.
Inscape is very powerful vector graphics software which is open-source and completely free - available from https://inkscape.org/ it does require you to download and install it, with versions available for Windows, MacOS and Linux (so can work on a Chromebook too). One of the features handiest for school work is the grid which has the best Isometric grid system of any design software I have used.
