Universities, including many local state schools, have been making large investments in their own Esports program to recruit students, compete nationally, and build innovative programs. Local and national universities include examples such as:
SUNY Canton
The first collegiate Esports team to launch in New York in 2018, SUNY Canton has recently invested in a 1,800 square-foot gaming room (https://www.canton.edu/Esports/).

Keuka College
Now offering an Esports management minor to “develop the skills associated with Esports operations, such as marketing, event management, broadcasting, content creation, strategic planning, and personnel management.” (https://www.keuka.edu/academics/programs/Esports-management)
Syracuse University
Joining the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC)in September Syracuse has invested in building a 36 desktop computer Esports room on their campus at the Barnes Center at The Arch. (https://ese.syr.edu/bewell/esports/)
SUNY Albany
Launched in the spring of 2019, UAlbany became a member of the ECAC and opened a new gaming arena in November (https://www.albany.edu/Esports)
SUNY Polytechnic
In December of 2019, SUNY Poly launched their Esports program and announced membership in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) to offer students a competitive alternative to more traditional collegiate sports. Ohio State University
OSU is developing an “Academic and Research Program in Esports and Game Studies” in addition to investing in creating a Esports arena with 80 gaming computers and other consoles. (https://Esports.osu.edu/academics-and-research/)
State University of New York (SUNY) System

“Currently, hundreds of colleges and universities offer tens of millions of dollars in Esports scholarship money. That number grows substantially every year as more and more schools spin up Esports programs.”
As of October 2019, there were nearly 200 colleges offering scholarships for Esports players as schools such as OSU develop Academic Esports Programs
