OVERVIEW OF THE MODULE:

In this module, students will learn the procedures and routines that will be used throughout the school year in reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar and spelling. Students will learn to choose "good-fit" books and will build stamina in reading. Students will learn the expectation for fourth-grade writing which is writing complete sentences using correct capitalization, punctuation, and spelling. Students will learn to answer questions by turning the question around, and will learn to provide text evidence to support their answers using sentence stems.

THE STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:

  • develop routines and procedures that will be used throughout the year to study reading, writing, language, and reading foundational skills.

  • co-construct anchor charts to describe the behaviors and expectations related to important habits and routines.

  • learn to select “just-right texts,” demonstrate reading preferences, and use a reading log to monitor reading stamina as they read a variety of literature and informational short texts

  • ask and answer questions about the texts read to demonstrate understanding.

  • record ideas in a reader’s notebook to guide collaborative discussions to further deepen understanding of the text.
