Religion Class Work = 60% Test = 40%
This year in Religion we will be navigating our way through the Old Testament. We will start with Genesis and find our way through Exodus. This year we will be giving the students the New American Bible Revised Edition of the Breakthrough Bible. This is the version we will hear at mass. Please make sure your child tabs their Bible correctly. It is important that they take care of these, they will be used through their 8th grade year. We will also be utilizing the online version of the Bible through usccb.org.
We also cover God’s Covenant, the Seven Sacraments, the Ten Commandments, the Mysteries of the Rosary, Our Call to Holiness, Treasures of the Catholic Faith, Theological and Cardinal Virtues and the Beatitudes.
As we follow the Liturgical calendar in the church we will discuss the Gospels and the stories of Jesus, his birth, life, death and resurrection.
Prayer
We will be learning prayers throughout the year. I encourage you to learn these prayers with your child. October is the month of the Rosary. This is when we will be learning the mysteries of the Rosary while saying the Rosary as a class.
Some of the prayers include:
Prayer to the Holy Spirit Nicene Creed Penitential Act (Confiteor)
Memorare Apostles Creed Anima Christi
Hail Holy Queen Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel
Morning Offering
These will be scripture, quotes from Saints, or Daily Readings. The students will reflect on them in their Religion Journal.

Capitalizing on a Teachable Subject - An election year.
Voting and Elections are an essential part of our U.S. Government. We, as Americans, have the privilege to be part of a Democracy in which we elect our leader. As our children begin to prepare to be part of a community, they should understand their vote will be their voice!
This Freedom has been obtained and defended throughout history. During this election year they will gain an understanding of the history and process of elections, the workings of American Government and the impact that they can have on the process as well as the future of our country.
Please know we will NOT be discussing the specific candidate’s platforms or opinions directly related to any and all political parties. In teaching this unit I will make an effort to carefully present the authentic mission of the Church and of our Catholic Schools.
I encourage you and your family to take this opportunity to exchange views and become involved during this important time in history. Please help with this process by keeping all political expressions, views, and commentaries a private discussion within your family environment. Here in the classroom, our learning will generate a greater understanding of the political process and foster a respect for the offices our countries leaders hold. These moments will show the students the importance of government, their civic duty, and the impact it can have on their future society.
