Curriculum

Class Work = 40% Test = 60%

Reading:

This year we will be working hard on reading comprehension strategies and answering questions using information from the text we are reading for both literary and information texts. We will also complete book studies using some popular books for middle school!

We will use a variety of graphic organizers to show understanding of text. Work will mostly be completed on Google Classroom and the Journey's online reading resource.

Writing:

Students will be writing, narratives, informational, and persuasive pieces. Most writing work will be completed at school. Students will be following rubrics to guide them while they write that include language and grammar standards. Writing will be done as a "sloppy copy" in their writing notebooks and then transferred to a document when they are ready to publish their pieces.

AR

This year students will have a goal of 20 points per quarter. This will be a combination of books they read on their own that are "on their level" and books read by me in class. Students will receive test scores for AR each quarter. 1 score will be for meeting their 20 point goal and the other will be their test accuracy. These two test scores will be part of their Literature grade and will be marked as as test.
