Creative Writing: Understanding the Writing Process
A good writer is someone who can communicate their point to their audience in a way that the other person can understand. Writing is a process that requires the writer to think carefully about the purpose for writing, plan what to say, plan how to say it, and understand what the reader needs to know. This writing course supports emerging to intermediate writers in Grades 4 to 6. This developmental writing program will support writers through types of writing leading to better writing proficiency. Listening, oral, and reading skills will be reviewed to support proficiency in writing using outlined Islamic themes. Planning, drafting, editing, revising, and producing work with set templates of thinking will be reviewed to ensure students have a good map for their writing as they continue to develop into competent writers. The course purpose is to review and practice needed strategies and skills to write effectively and succinctly. The course schedule is as follows:
Week 1: Setting Expectations, Goals, Success Criteria, Mechanics of Writing
Week 2: Writing Process: Types of Writing and Purpose Strategies (Writing and Reading)
Week 3: Various Genres: Opinion Writing
Week 4: Various Genres: Comparison Writing and Reading
Week 5: Various Genres: Facts
