Music K-5

In Grades K-5, students will learn how to read music, match pitch, and basics of musical instruments.

Kindergarten: We will focus on learning a 5 note scale and progress to an octave scale using solfege (Do,Re,Mi...). We are also part of the Christmas musical program that is performed by our elementary school.

1st Grade: We will continue our focus on our scales using solfege. We also learn common time signature and are able to put rhythms and pitches together. We are also part of the Christmas musical program that is performed by our elementary school.

2nd Grade: We continue learning our scales and time signatures. By this point, we are able to read Quarter notes, Eighth notes, and Sixteenth notes. We also begin to explore the world of bucket drumming. We are also part of the Christmas musical program that is performed by our elementary school.

3rd Grade: We begin to focus on sight reading and rhythm reading (at first sight). We do an entire unit on Bucket drumming. We also learn about Opera, musical theater, and the world of Classical music composers. We are also part of the Christmas musical program that is performed by our elementary school.

4th Grade: We focus on Music history and learn about various composers. We are also responsible for a composer project where we research general questions about a composer and share their music. This year, we will give a Ukulele concert. We also do a unit on bucket drumming. We are involved in the choir for school Masses throughout the year. We are also part of the Christmas musical program that is performed by our elementary school.

5th Grade: We focus on Music history and learn about various composers. We are also responsible for a composer project where we research general questions about a composer and share their music. This year, we will give a bucket drumming concert. We are involved in the choir for school Masses throughout the year. We are also part of the Christmas musical program that is performed by our elementary school.
