Biography
Dan Bishop was born on July 1, 1964. He grew up in a family of 5 with his parents, Kaytee and Bud, pushing him and his siblings to strive for academic success. Bishop attended University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill for undergrad where he received a degree in business and then for law school. He practiced business litigation before becoming a Representative. Bishop is now married to his wife of 25 years, Jo, and together they have one son, Jack.
Religious Values
Bishop identifies as a Protestant and has shared his Christian values with others. He reportedly quoted the Declaration of Independence in a House Judiciary Committee meeting when discussing God-given rights. Here is a link to this meeting.
From Lawyer to Politician
Bishop worked as a commercial litigator for almost three decades. He was elected to the North Carolina House and Senate and the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners. Bishop was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2019, with a special election.
Tenure
Bishop has been elected to the House of Representatives for the 116, 117, and 118th Congress. He represents the 8th congressional district in North Carolina. He is retiring from Congress this year to run for North Carolina's Attorney General. His run for Attorney General is expected to be competitive as the seat has been historically controlled by democrats and no Republican has been elected to the position since the late 1800s.
