It has been lovely to see more of our pupils returning over the last week. This week we have also said goodbye to some of our year 6 children as they have completed their 2 sessions. We look forward to welcoming more pupils to school next week - thank you for all the support we have received from parents.
Welsh government announced this week that all pupils will return to school in September. Further guidance will be provided to schools next week. Until the school receives the Welsh Government guidance we are unable to provide more information to parents. We apologise that we cannot provide more information at this stage but thank you for your ongoing understanding and support.
Chromebook Return
As we near the end of the school year we are required to collect the chromebooks that were lent to parents and pupils at the start of the school closure period.
In order to aid social distancing measures we have arranged a rota for dropping off the chromebooks. When the chromebook is returned we will need to update our records and confirm the serial number of the item on our documentation.
A member of staff will be situated in the car park to collect the chromebooks, parents may enter the car park on foot via South Street. Please ensure that the chromebook and charger are returned to school.
If you would like to drop off the chromebook with your child’s teacher on their Catch Up day please contact us by email so we can ensure a member of staff is available to sign the device back into school.
We will also be able to offer a late evening drop off for parents on Tuesday between 4pm and 6pm however this is by prior arrangement only. Please email us to book this slot.

Home Learning Update
Nursery
This week, Nursery has continued to work incredibly hard and have impressed us all very much.
In literacy, we have continued to practise reading and writing phonic sounds.
In maths, we revised number sentences, worked with money, and we practised our number formation.
In our Flipgrid challenges, we investigated floating and sinking with Mrs Hemming.
We started our own 'Nursery's got talent' show on Flipgrid and we can see that we have a very talented class!
We have also written things that we want our new teachers to know about us in preparation for joining Reception and we have taken photos for our virtual Nursery class photo.
Thank you for another fantastic week of learning; we are all so proud of you!
Reception
Reception have had another exciting week as this week we have found out who our new class teachers for year one will be. We are very excited and have completed lots of transition activities. We have shared information with our new teachers with our 'Spread your wings and fly into year 1' butterfly activity. We ave also raised questions about things we would like to know about next year. We have been working hard on maths games and puzzles, re-visiting addition, subtraction, missing and muddled up number lines. We have listened to a story about Pirate Jakes first day at school and how it proved to be very exciting after initial worried thoughts. We have sorted and read pirate words and written our own pirate sentences, concentrating on capital letters, full stops, finger spaces and correct letter formation. We have seen some excellent sentences on the flip grids. We have also designed and made Pirate flags and hats and done some Pirate dancing. Da iawn reception an another successful week. We are really looking forward to seeing many of you again next week for our final week in reception.
Year 1
We cannot believe that it is almost the end of term! It has been wonderful seeing lots of you this week and having time to catch up. Yet another great week of learning, you have impressed us once again year 1. In maths this week we have looked at different shapes and positional language. We have seen lots of great problem solving going on, especially through our number work this week involving big numbers. Through English we have re-capped lots of tricky sounds and have started to write and read more complex vocabulary. We even wrote some sentences around the story ‘Formidable Sid’! In science, we answered a range of questions around looking after our pets, it was lovely to see your posters about your favourite animals and how to look after them. In Welsh, we listened and answered questions about the seaside, based on our Welsh story this week ‘ar lan y mor’. It is lovely to see your Welsh vocabulary grow. The flipgrid videos that are being uploaded are creative, engaging and full of challenge, keep it up year 1.
Year 2
As we are in our final weeks of Year 2, we have been reviewing many of the topics we have covered throughout the year. For Maths and Literacy, Year 2 were asked to work through activity booklets to recap previous topics and test their knowledge.
They have been busy completing a series of Art challenges inspired by the work of Welsh artist Tim Pugh. We look forward to seeing some finished pieces on Google Classroom.
We have continued to research about sea creatures to link in with our Topic work. The children have come up with fun and exciting ways of presenting the information they have collected, about the creatures that can often be found in rock pools.
Next week will be the children's last week in Year 2 and we look forward to welcoming some of them back into school for our last 'Check in' days. We will be posting some transition activities onto the classroom next week. These will help their Year 3 teachers to get to know them better, ready for September.
Have a good week and once again, thank you all for your continued support during these times, Year 2 team.
Year 3
Year 3 have had another busy and productive week on Google Classroom. We are very impressed with the work produced and are always in awe of how well the children are working at home.
Within literacy, we continue to study George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl. This week, we have created an adventurous ‘Big Day Out’ for Grandma and George, discussed a range of scenarios when Grandma went missing and designed a WANTED poster to help to find Grandma. We completed the week with today’s lesson of creating a medicine of our own and writing out a recipe, including measurements, time connectives, adverbs and adjectives!
Maths lessons have included using lots of different mathematical skills. We started the week by working on word problems using the four operations. We had to work out how much of each ingredient was needed to create Goerge’s medicine recipes. We then moved onto a challenging problem relating to Geroge’s medicine and had to crack the code!
We have also enjoyed completing our transition activities and continued to work on our Rainforest and Science project work.
The year three teachers are enjoying seeing all of the work, photographs and descriptions that are uploaded.
Year 4
The teachers in Year 4 have enjoyed another busy week in the classroom both virtually and physically. Again it has been lovely to continue to catch up with the children and prepare them for their exciting move to Year 5 next year.
In Literacy we have been looking at autobiographies and learning about teachers in the school by reading their autobiographies.
In Maths, the children have now completed their holiday planning. All the children demonstrated careful budget planning using their knowledge of money to do so. This week they children have been engaging in many mathematical reasoning activities using a range of skills. The quizzes have enabled the children to practise and consolidate their prior knowledge. The next challenge is for Year 4 to create their own word problems for their classmates and teacher to solve. We look forward to seeing how mathematically creative you are!
This week we have been continuing our work on the Tudors, Year 4 have been learning all about Tudor Art and how the Tudor Rose was inspired by the Battle of Bosworth Field. The children have been tasked with designing their own Tudor Rose. Additionally Year 4 have been recapping their Welsh knowledge by reading and writing sentences about chwaraeon (games) a (and) pynciau (topics). The children have been writing both positive and negative sentences about their likes and dislikes. Da iawn Blywddyn Pedwar!
Year 5
The penultimate week of year 5 has been a busy one!
In maths, pupils have been developing their measuring skills and calculating the volume of given objects. Pupils have been self-assessing their work and identifying their strengths when completing the tasks.
In literacy this week, pupils have put their background research and their knowledge of biographies to create their own Charles Darwin Biography. These have been very informative and have been great to read. Next week pupils will be moving on to writing their autobiographies ready for their new teachers in September.
Our afternoons this week has focused on reflection and health and wellbeing. Pupils were tasked to write a letter to themselves, one that they will open in a years time, discussing the current situation and what positives they are able to take from the situation.
It has been lovely to see pupils during their catch up sessions in school, it has been lovely to see them and speak to them in person, and we are looking forward to more catch up sessions next week.
Year 6
Wow, the penultimate week of year 6. Class of 2019 -2020 will be one to remember.
This week, in maths, year 6 started the week investigating area and perimeter, creating a rectangle using cut out squares. We were very happy to hear how many family members were getting involved. This investigation was an ideal warm up or year 6’s Zoo project. As their final piece of work in year 6, we combined maths and English together. In part one of their project they have been asked to become a Zoo Designer: choosing animals, calculating area required for each animal (dependant on how many they chose), research each animal, use their advertising skills to name the animal enclosures to appeal to visitors as well as draw their blueprint and calculate the area and perimeter in order to buy enough fencing. This has kept year 6 busy this week, recalling their skills learned over the past year. Next week we will release part two of the project.
We have had great fun in school on their catch up days; Brynteg Timetable Bingo, Brynteg map coordinates, Brynteg map Quiz as well as a teacher recap. We are focusing our time on preparing pupils with the skills they highlighted as areas of concern - getting lost and reading a timetable. We are incredibly proud of all the children’s efforts, adaptability and their positive outlook.
