Spelling/Phonics
Spelling and phonics will be taught through word families. Students will be assessed after practicing the skill in school and reinforced through homework through reading, spelling, and writing activities.
When written homework is given in the h-copy, please follow the format that was done in class.
Ways to help at home
**Spelling/Phonics**
Practice saying and spelling rhyming words at home.
Give your child sets of words, and have them sort them into words that rhyme & words that don't rhyme.
Practice changing a letter in a word, and have your child read it. It doesn't have to make a real word (ex: change "cat" into "wat"). Learning how to decode words, even if they don't make sense is extremely beneficial.
Use various mediums to practice-magnetic letters, scrabble tiles, letter blocks, etc. You can make your own by writing letters inside of water bottle lids, writing letters on the sides of legos, or even forming letters out of clay. Use your child's interests to their advantage.
