Back to School Readiness Skills
Below you will find some skills you can practice before school starts to help your child be more prepared for 1st grade. These should be review skills that were previously learned in kindergarten.
Reading Readiness Words:
Practice reading these basic sight words. Flash cards made from index cards can be very beneficial.

number words from zero-twelve
Math:
Practice counting/one-to-one correspondence. This can be done anywhere-the park, while driving, etc. It does not have to be written with pencil & paper.
Religion:
Practice making the Sign of the Cross with the correct hand movements
General:
Practice writing their 1st and last name, spelling it correctly and holding the pencil with the proper grip
Practice using scissors and glue sticks correctly
Be able to identify full name, birthday, and address
Be able to zip/button/hook skorts, pants, and shorts easily
Know proper handwashing skills
