Each week your child will receive a homework packet. Homework packets will be sent home the first day of the week (generally Monday) and will be due the last day of the week (usually Friday). Students may either complete their homework packets right away and have the rest of the week to enjoy a break, or they may break out the assignments into smaller portions over the week. I feel that both approaches teach important life skills (either by getting things done immediately and not procrastinating so you have more free time or by using your time wisely to break larger tasks into more manageable tasks) and I am fine with either strategy. I know that sometimes students are traveling, have extracurriculars, may feel tired, or it just may be a hectic day for your family. My goal is to provide homework to help reinforce skills we are learning in class, but also teach them life skills that will help them beyond kindergarten.
In addition to their homework packet, I encourage you to read to your child daily (preferably at least 15-20 minutes, even better if they're reading Bible stories or the lives about the saints) and discuss who the characters in the story were, what the problem in the story was (the conflict), and how they fixed it (the resolution), and identify the parts of a book (the front, the back, the spine), and that we read left to right. Students should also practice the pledge of allegiance, memorizing their address and phone number, and praying their prayers (Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, the Fatima Prayer, and Grace Before Meals).
