Mrs. Vigil's Kindergarten Class

Welcome to Our Lady of the Assumption's Kindergarten Class! We are so excited to have you join us!

Before we jump in, I'd like to tell you a quick story: When my husband and I were first searching for a pediatric dentist, we chose ours partially for something she had said: On her commute to work every morning, she would listen to the latest dental news so she would be knowledgeable of the most current trends and best practices in her field. She wanted to be an expert. And as a teacher, that is something I strive for as well. I spend countless hours outside of the classroom listening to podcasts, reading blogs, attending webinars and workshops, and collaborating with my colleagues because I want to provide your child with the best kindergarten experience possible.

In my classroom, I believe that it is my job to create a fun, play-based environment that is both academically rigorous and challenges students to grow in holiness to become the best versions of themselves possible.

I strongly believe in the Church's position that parents, grandparents, godparents, and other caregivers are my students' first educators, and it is my job to help reinforce and support them in this role. If you ever need any help or ideas on how to challenge your child or reinforce concepts at home, please don't hesitate to ask.

I have an open-door policy and strongly encourage parents/grandparents/and other caregivers to volunteer in our classroom or just drop by to see all of the fun things we are learning. If you would like to help out on a regular basis, please let me know.* We would love to have you join us. :)

Thanks and God Bless!

Fun Facts About Mrs. Vigil

I have been volunteering or teaching in classrooms since I was 18 years old and have taught everything from preschool-eighth grade, sacrament preparation, p.e. and Title I to name a few, but kindergarten has always been my favorite.

I previously ran the Pray & Play Club and the St. Patrick S.T.R.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art and Math) Club at O.L.A. and I strive to include lots of faith-based and S.T.R.E.A.M. activities in my lesson plans.

I spent a little over two years teaching English online to students in China.

My husband and I became parishioners at Our Lady of the Assumption the week after we were married when I moved from California to New Mexico... eleven years ago! Since then we have been active in various parish ministries, as well as with different ministries at the Shrine of St. Bernadette and with the Albuquerque Catholic Moms group.

I have four children, all who attend O.L.A.

My family has a dog (Sophie Jr.), a hamster (Hemingway Crookshanks), an indoor cat (Meow Meow) and a semi-official stray cat (Tybalt) who has claimed our house as his.

I love growing in our faith and trying to find ways to teach the faith using lots of hands-on activities, analogies, and games.

My confirmation saint was St. Frances Xavier Cabrini and she is the patron saint for our class!

Other Random Things I Love: I love everything Disney or Harry Potter, cheeseburgers (especially from In-N-Out, Texas Roadhouse or Red Robin), Chick-Fil-A, A&W Root Beer, reading, rainy weather, writing, bubbles, playing board games (especially Clue), traveling and having adventures with my family.
