Let's Get Started

Need a little guidance? We’ve put together a quick checklist to provide you with all the information you need to enroll and start your e3 Online Learning journey. If you need further assistance along the way, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Your assigned neighborhood school (In-District vs. Out-of-District)

Please enter your home address into the OKCPS School Locator Tool. If your address is not assigned to an OKCPS school, you are considered out-of-district. Out-of-district students will be assigned a neighborhood school once the transfer process is complete.  If you need to contact your home school you can find school contact info here. At e3, we believe that social interaction and engagement with peers is essential to mental health and well-being. Each student is assigned to a neighborhood school which provides various social opportunities for students. E3 students can attend a wide variety of events from sporting events, to school dances, educational field trips, and more. They can also join clubs and other student run organizations. Extracurricular activities are offered to foster real connections between students and their peers.

Family engagement has a direct correlation to student success. Students with engaged parents/guardians are more likely to have higher self-esteem, lower absenteeism and earn high grades or test scores. Campus Parent is a platform that helps OKCPS parents/guardians stay engaged with their child's education by providing access to student's grades, attendance, schedule and more!

Student devices and other materials

The exciting part! When you enroll in e3 Online Learning, the materials and device (laptop or tablet) your student needs to begin will be the same device from previous year.If your students does not have a device or is new to the district please contact us.

Set up a dedicated learning space and daily schedule for your student

Attending e3 Online Learning will offer students a great amount of flexibility because they can do their work from virtually anywhere. However, they will be most productive if you spend some time planning / preparing a dedicated schedule and learning environment for them before they getting started.

Daily Schedule

Develop your student’s daily schedule. Depending on their grade level, expect your student to spend between 4 and 7 hours a day on school, five days per week.

Create Separation

To create an atmosphere that will motivate students to do their best work, one of the first steps you should take is separating their personal space from their learning space.

Think of your home in terms of zones: you probably already have a zone for dining, one for sleeping, and one for entertainment.  Now you need one for school work. It’s best not to overlap with a zone typically used for another purpose, as this can introduce distractions. No matter the size of your space, try to set up an area with a desk, good lighting, and a comfortable chair so that the student knows it’s time to work when they are in that area.

Identify and Mitigate Distractions

Even if you have painstakingly chosen or set up a learning space, you should next spend some time identifying and coming up with a plan to mitigate distractions.

Think about what is in sight of the learning space. You do not want them in sight of a television, even if it’s off, or a window if you know these may be distractions for them. A cell phone is another common distraction for many students. When it’s time to work, it's best to place all family cell phones on silent and in even place the student's phone (if applicable) in a separate location.

Also keep in mind that your computer or laptop itself may pose additional distractions. Thus, in planning the learning space, decide ahead of time to not have any open tabs in your browser that are for websites or social media not related to coursework. This will also help you keep the student's personal space and learning separate.

One last common distraction is other people. Many students will find it hard to study around friends, and family. You may need to reevaluate the learning space and choose a location with fewer distractions. If you can’t dedicate an entire room to studies, make sure to talk to those who share your space and let them know when the student will be working on their coursework. If you establish this boundary and help control for those types of distractions, you will have a more effective learning environment.

Utilize Organizational Tools

Another aspect of establishing a good learning space is finding organizational tools that will not only increase productivity but help the student streamline their space into one that is easier to work in. Whether you choose to use a metal filing cabinet with color-coded folders or an online file storage system, spend some time looking at the types of files you have and the best way to organize them to make the student can work efficiently and keep their desk clear.

Flexibility is one of the most appealing aspects of online courses. To get the most out of that flexibility, spend some initial time engaging in some self-reflection to create a workspace that will maximize productivity. The time and effort you spend planning and organizing the learning space will pay off when you have a great online course experience!
