Courage is "strength to act even when afraid or uncertain."
Quote: "Courage is doing what you are afraid to do. There is no courage unless you are scared." ~ Eddie Rickenbacker
Fear and anxiety are common during this unprecedented time. Use the time with your children this week to help them find bravery within them if you can.
Suggested ideas:
1. Prompt your child to reflect what he/she has done to show courage during school closure.
"I am brave when....."
"I can find bravery inside me by...."
"This is what I can do to help others to feel brave....."
"I encourage...."
2. Listen and acknowledge when a child makes choices that reflect courage.
3. Integrate this character trait in whatever you do this week.
4. Model positive self-talk to encourage yourself and others. "We can do this!"
5. Select books to read with a child. Here are some examples.or select from your own book collection.
6. Record your child responses and/or take a picture of their responses and share it with me. I will put them together to encourage our school community.
I am sharing a YouTube-very kid-friendly produced by my dear school counselor colleague, Ms.Kirk. She has done a good job sharing the stories about courage. Check her out.
