Welcome to 6th Grade!
Welcome to another exciting school year! My name is Ms. Phillips and I am honored to be your student's 6th grade teacher this year.
I consider 6th grade to be a milestone year, marked with many new challenges, rights of passage, and significant accomplishments. I am particularly excited to jump into this school year, as this will also be my first year of teaching. Therefore, as we begin this journey together, we'll learn from one another, grow together, and make lasting memories along the way.
Despite this being my first year as a teacher, my journey in education began as a Resource Aide at Fair Oaks in 2021, where I worked with students with special needs. During this time, I discovered my love for the classroom and helping students discover their individual strengths. This discovery eventually led to me obtaining my Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies, as well as my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from CSU Stanislaus.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and boyfriend. You can often find me reading by the river, going to the movies, or trying my best to keep up on the pickleball courts!
In our classroom, students will be encouraged to support each other, take control of their learning, and develop a growth mindset. I strive to create an environment of trust, inclusivity, and respect, where all students have the freedom to take risks in the process of becoming the best version of themselves.
That being said, I consider communication and collaboration between us to be critical in your student's success this school year. I will send home important announcements and updates frequently to ensure that we are all on the same page. I also encourage you to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have.
I am looking forward to meeting you all, and I am confident that with your support we will have a wonderful year ahead of us!

There are plenty of YouTube videos to help with EACH problem set/classwork. Click the dropdown menu to see some helpful links.
Let me start by saying this: I do not feel students should have a ton of homework after they have been at school all day, however, practicing math and having concepts spiraled and reviewed throughout the year is extremely beneficial to their learning. I try to give as much time in class to complete their work and even offer my lunch hours to help them complete their work.

Students will be given daily math problems from the "problem set" in their math notebooks. There is a homework helper page in the book, and they should refer to the notes they took in class to assist them. If they are absent, please refer to the math homework helper dropdown for helpful videos and links.
Students will have a Scholastic News Read Aloud Log to complete. They will read aloud to a family member and the family member will rate their fluency on the log. Log due dates will be on each log in their homework binder.
All incomplete classwork needs to be completed during office hours on Mondays and Wednesdays. Due to AI use and cheating, students must complete classwork IN class.
-Online Gradebook/Grading Policies-
I use Aeries for the gradebook and I input grades on a weekly basis.
You and your child have complete access to the gradebook at all times. They will have their own account soon.
You can check Google Classroom for grades and see private comments I have made on their work.
Writing assignments typically have a rubric which will either be attached to the assignment in Google Classroom or printed.
Late work is accepted until the week before the end of the trimester (unless otherwise stated).
Most tests are given with permission to refer to their notes meaning that note-taking is essential to doing well.
Students are responsible for checking their grades and turning in missing assignments/tests.
Many assignments (not quizzes, tests, or large projects) can be redone in order to receive the grade they want, as long as the original submission was turned in by the initial deadline.
Students must email me if they have turned something in late, or if they redo an online assignment.
