Library Media Center Services & Procedures

The Library Media Center is open from 7:10 AM to 3:30 PM. Students are encouraged to make use of the Library Media Center for independent research, individual study, group work or reading during study halls or before or after the school day. The following guidelines and procedures have been established to provide a Library Media Center that operates efficiently and provides an atmosphere that is conducive to academic study.

Behavior Expectations

1. The Library Media Center and its materials are provided as extensions of our leaning environments for all students to access to enhance their education. Students should utilize library time productively and quietly. They should arrive to the library with any necessary materials needed for their work.

Improper, inappropriate, or destructive conduct will lead to a loss of these privileges.

Acceptable behavior includes:

a. Checking out and requesting materials

b. Reading

c. Studying

d. Using computers (see below for computer guidelines)

e. Completing school assignments

f. Quiet group work

2. Food and drinks are not permitted in the Library-Media Center with the exception of bottled water.

3. Students who come to the library from a class must come with a pass sent from a teacher.

4. Study hall groups should report to the library directly from the study hall. Students arriving from study hall are expected to stay until the end of the period.

5. Upon entering the Library Media Center during school hours, students must sign in using their student ID/ barcode.

6. Students must limit numbers at each seating area in order to maintain a quiet, respectful atmosphere. Group work is permitted if done so quietly.

Circulation Expectations

1. Library materials can be checked out for an assigned time period. Fiction and Non-fiction are circulated for four weeks. Certain reference materials may be checked out overnight.

2. If a book is returned after the date it is due, there will be a 10 cent fine per school day. There is a 25 cent fine per school day for reference materials.

3. To locate a book in the library, students should log utilize the online library catalog. If assistance is needed, students should ask a member of the library staff.

4. To renew a library book, the student must have the book in hand to do so.

5. It is ultimately the responsibility of each student to remember his/her library book due date. Students may not borrow another library book until the overdue one is returned or renewed. Fines are assessed on overdue books.

6. When library books are overdue, students will receive a notice via email. Excessively overdue books will be marked as lost and treated as an obligation.


Computer Expectations

1. Computers located in the Library Media Center are to be used for school-related needs.

2. Inappropriate use of computers or internet with library computers may result in loss of library privilege and/or other consequences the school deems necessary. Students must follow all school policies relating to technology use.

3. Students may use the networked printer in the library for printing school-related documents. No personal documents should be printed.

4. Students should not print excessively. Please select only the parts of the document needed for an assignment.

5. Please report any computer issues /problems to a member of the library staff.
