The Role:
Provide vocal/choral music instruction for students in grades 5–12 at one campus location. This includes 5th and 6th grade-level choral ensembles that meet every other day, a combined 7th-8th grade choral ensemble that meets daily, two high school vocal ensembles that meet on a rotating block schedule (mixed choir and women’s choir) and one semester of Men’s Choir. All ensembles perform in semester concerts.
Teach one semester of advanced music theory on a rotating block schedule in the opposite semester of Men’s Choir.
Support instrumental departmental colleague as needed for semester concerts.
Support NDCL music ministry.
Annual musical theater vocal coaching (additional stipend, not the show director).
Qualifications:
Undergraduate or graduate degree in music education.
Appropriate licensure from the State of Ohio.
Prior music teaching experience a plus.
Piano skill level for daily teaching success, advance piano skills a plus.

Status: Full-Time

Description and Qualifications:
Northwest Christian Church is seeking a part time Director of Music Ministry. NWCC is a suburban congregation which draws membership and participation from throughout the Columbus area. We have a vibrant music program that is a valued and vital element of our worship experience. Our worship style is primarily traditional, and we hope to continue our rich traditions, as well as include more contemporary elements into worship. We are fortunate to have a Schantz pipe organ, a Yamaha grand piano, an electronic keyboard, and a sanctuary that is acoustically balanced. We currently have a traditional adult choir (approximately 25 members), a contemporary ensemble, an adult bell choir, Chalice Arts (a Sunday afternoon concert series), and participation by talented instrumentalists.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Direct Chalice Choir (adult) (Rehearses weekly Thursdays 7:30 – 9:00, September through May) with participation in Sunday worship and other services throughout the year
Direct Chalice Ringers (bells) (Rehearses Thursdays 6:45 – 7:30), starting several weeks before worship participation. (4-6 times per year)
Direct Joyful Noise (contemporary ensemble) (Rehearses Tuesdays 7:30-8:30), starting several weeks before worship participation. (6-8 times per year)
Coordinate/direct instrumentalists for the larger music presence at Easter and Christmas seasons Coordinate periodic instrumental music during worship as solos or accompaniment for choirs
Coordinate special music offerings for the summer season
Develop and support participation in music programs for children/youth and praise and worship ensembles Coordinate, plan and schedule Chalice Arts programs (3-5 times per year)
Applicant Requirements
A desire to serve God through music, able to lead and support the spiritual sense of community in each ensemble An understanding of the church liturgical year and the theological foundations that form it
A solid knowledge of choral repertoire and the ability to run effective vocal rehearsals
Able to work collaboratively with pastoral and secretarial staff to plan service music based on scripture and message.
A music degree and/or previous background experience in similar positions
An openness to exploring innovative musical initiatives in coordination with pastoral staff
A working knowledge of copyright/licensure to assure that livestream presentations are compliant
Strong keyboard skills are a plus
Required to pass background check
