Anger

Children and adolescents often think that this feelings is not acceptable to have! But that is certainly not the case! Absolutely everyone experiences anger, but it is how we express anger that can often cause the trouble for the individual!

What I preach to my clients is that it is not a bad thing or wrong to feel anger! Make sure you normalize this feeling for your child and acknowledge it when they are feeling it! But help them learn positive ways to express it!

I teach 3 simple anger rules and tell my kiddos that they can express their anger anyway they want as long as they don’t break any of these rules!

Rule 1- I cannot hurt myself.

Rule 2- I cannot hurt anyone else.

Rule 3- I can not hurt anything. (Hurt can be emotionally or physically!)

Help your child come up with 3-5 of their own positive coping skills that work best for them! It’s helpful to have ones that will work at home and at school!
