This year we are syarting the Bridges math program. Student will have some homework, but also have time in class to work. For extra practice at home, they can use the IXL skill plan for Bridges. Below is an overview of our units. Each will take about 4 weeks to complete.
Unit 1: Expressions, Equations, and Volume. Students will practice their multiplication skills to find volume, review factors and multiples, review properties of multiplication, and then move from multiplication to division.
Unit 2: Adding and Subtracting Fractions. Students will learn how to add and subtract fractions, then to find equivalent fractions and common denominators.
Unit 3: Place Value & Decimals. Students will extend their understanding of place value to include decimal places, then use that to add and subtract decimals.
Unit 4: Multiplying & Dividing Whole Numbers & Decimals. Students will apply multiple strategies for division and multiplication, starting with models and strategies, then learning algorithms.
Unit 5: Multiplying & Dividing Fractions. Students will review whole number division and multiplication, then apply those strategies to fraction multiplication and division.
Unit 6: Graphing, Geometry, and Volume. Students will learn how to graph ordered pairs and classify polygons.
Unit 7: Division & Decimals. Students will review fraction division, division strategies, and place value, then apply those skills to dividing decimals.
Unit 8: Solar Design. As it is our first year doing this curriculum, we may not make it through to this unit. Students will investigate solar energy, then design and build a model solar home with real (mini) solar panels.
This year we are starting the number corner section of Bridges.
Each month has a few different standards students will practice. In September, students are working with volume, fractions and decimals, and number strings. The document below has the scope and sequence of the whole program.
