This year, Osseo-Fairchild Elementary adopted a new English Language Arts curriculum titled, Common Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) for Kindergarten through 5th grade. In Kindergarten, it includes two separate components titled "Skills" and "Knowledge".
Each Skills Unit is comprised of:
Lessons instructing in phonics and reading, grammar/language, writing, and beginning at Unit 3, spelling.
A Unit Assessment that evaluates skills taught within the following standards: reading, writing, speaking & listening, and language.
Pausing Points designed to review, reinforce, or extend the content and skills taught
Each Knowledge Unit is comprised of:
Lessons instructing in text analysis, comprehension, speaking & listening, language & vocabulary, and some writing.
A Unit Assessment that evaluates skills taught within the following standards: reading, writing, speaking & listening, and language.
Pausing Points designed to review, reinforce, or extend the content and skills taught
