My family came to Odyssey Charter School the first year the school opened. It was MUCH closer to home than our previous charter school, and with two kindergarteners still to go that was important. It turned out to be a great move for us. As a parent volunteer I had helped start the library at our previous charter school and my oldest son, an avid reader, was quite disappointed to lose that library; I promised him that if we moved to this new school, I would make it my mission to help start a new library here. So I volunteered for two years to help get our library up and running, then I was hired as the librarian when the library opened in 2007.
The oldest of nine children, I grew up all over the world, including the South Pacific, Tonga, and Kiribati, then in Arizona, California and Utah. My father taught in the LDS school system, including LDS Seminary. Everywhere we went, I found and enjoyed the libraries. I went to BYU where I obtained an AA degree in Library and Information Science. I met my husband, Nels Beckstrand on the BYU Ballroom Dance Company, and finally, after I had served an LDS mission to the Philippines, we were married. We celebrated our 30th anniversary in 2019.
Interesting fact: All five of our children have attended OCS! And with luck, our grandchildren will be coming here soon too!
