Library Announcements
~~~ 2026~~~
Welcome back to school!
NEW: FINE-FREE! We are eliminating overdue fines this year. Students must still return or renew books before checking out additional books. Families are responsible for lost or damaged books, as outlined in the Library Use Agreement accepted during registration.
Volunteer Opps: We do still need lots of help in the library! (Grandparents & others make great volunteers if you aren't available!) Find more info below...
We have lots of FUN VOLUNTEER options for library committees:
📅 WEEKLY COMMITMENT — The first two are ongoing weekly commitments for the school year. Please sign up only if you can come every week or arrange a substitute
Weekly Library Shifts - ONGOING WEEKLY COMMITMENT
Job Description: Help students find books, put books away, and check books in and out on the computer. Volunteers commit to coming every week throughout the school year. If you cannot make your regular shift, you are responsible for finding a substitute. Shifts are available Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday at various times. NO preschoolers, please. Sign up online HERE.
Weekly Home Reading Program (HRP) Shifts - ONGOING WEEKLY COMMITMENT
Job Description: Right after carpool, collect HRP books, check them in and out on the computer, and redistribute them. Volunteers commit to coming every week throughout the school year. If you cannot make your regular shift, you are responsible for finding a substitute. WELL-MANAGED preschoolers only, please. Sign up online HERE.
📅 The opportunities below are NOT weekly commitments. Sign up as your schedule allows!
Book Fair Volunteers (in Oct & Feb)
Job Description: Assist the Book Fair chair in preparing the displays, manning the sales area, or other assignments as requested. Sign up online HERE.
Battle of the Books Volunteers (in March)
Job Description: Assist with our annual Battle of the Books (usually in March). This may consist of reading questions to the competitors or assisting in a variety of other ways. Sign up online HERE.
Library Substitutes - We can occasionally use substitutes who will work as needed when available, and not as a regular weekly shift. (No preschoolers when classes are present.) Email the librarian for this opportunity: sbeckstrand@odyssycharter.net
~~~ Other USEFUL STUFF ~~~
Families are welcome to donate books at any time. Check our LIBRARY WISH LIST if you want to peruse our needs and wants. (Did you know you can donate a book for your child's birthday? We'll put a birthday faceplate with their name on it in the book.)
Parents are ABSOLUTELY WELCOME to check out books from our library - just ask!
Curious about the Library policies? Parents signed the Parent Student Handbook during school registration. Search this document for the Library Use Agreement.
