See Something,

Say Something

"When you see something that is not right, not fair, not just, you have to speak up. You have to say something; you have to do something."

-John Lewis

The purpose of See Something, Say Something is to encourage conversations about multifaceted issues in mental health among students and staff at ODU.

What are the issues?

Eating Disorders

Disordered eating can increase in college in many forms such as crash diets, anorexia, bulimia, and other patterns of eating that can have serious consequences on an individual's physical and emotional health.

Interpersonal Relationships

Struggles within one's interpersonal relationships can transpire and exacerbate other health issues faced by students and professors alike.

Depression

Depression can be a very isolating experience. Although symptoms can range from mild to severe, individuals typically endure feelings of sadness, a lack of motivation, ruminating thoughts, and potentially harmful behaviors.

What can we do?

Mental Health Awareness Training

Educating students and professors on the many topics of mental health is the start. Training will be provided using different formats by certified mental health instructors Dr. Sherry Norton-Williams and Dr. Jean E. McClellan-Holt.

See something?
Say Something!

See something that makes you worry about your friend's mental health? Say something!

Communication is at the heart of everything we do. Help is out there. There is no shame is asking.
