Beth Horne

Originally from PA, Beth graduated from St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY, in 1997, with her Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education with a concentration in Social Psychology. After graduating college, she spent 3 years in the Army at Ft. Bragg, NC. Beth then found her way to Hampton in 2000. She taught 2nd and 3rd grades at Robert E. Lee for 4 years and then taught 3rd grade at Aberdeen for 3 years. In 2007, she became an ITRT in the district and is currently still in this position as a CITT. In 2010, Beth completed her Masters in Administration and Supervision. She has also completed the Teacher Leadership cohort through HCS as one of the first graduates of this program.

Belinda Flucker
Hampton City Schools
Born and raised in Hampton, Va, Belinda graduated from Phoebus High School before completing her undergraduate work double majoring in Secondary Education and History at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL. With her bachelor’s, Belinda then completed her M.B.A at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Mount Vernon, OH before returning to Hampton, VA in 2015. Belinda has taught World History I & II, VA/US History, AP World History for the past four years at Hampton High School before transitioning to the IPL Team.

Becca Lecompte
Hampton City Schools
Becca LeCompte is a Curriculum Integration Technology Teacher with Hampton City Schools. In this role, she works with teachers and students to integrate technology into instruction and curriculum development of all departments. Becca also leads the Curriculum Writing Academy for the division and supports Hampton's project-based learning initiative at the high school level. She is also currently enrolled in the Monarch 14 Educational Leadership cohort at Old Dominion University.

Kim Weaver
Hampton City Schools
Kim Weaver is originally from Hampton and went from being a student to becoming a teacher, all at HCS! She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in History and got her teaching certificate at Christopher Newport University. Kim started out with 11 years in elementary school teaching 3rd grade. She then moved to an ITRT position and is currently in that position as a CITT.
Leon R. Edwards II

Leon R. Edwards II is a Technology Specialist for WHRO. Before coming to WHRO, Leon spent 11 years working for Norfolk Public Schools where he was a Math teacher on the secondary level for seven years, and an Instructional Technology Resource Teacher on the elementary level for four years. He then moved to administration and worked for Hampton City Schools for eight years as an Assistant Principal on the middle school level.

Jennifer Lockett
Hampton City Schools
Born and raised in Hampton, Virginia, Jennifer is a proud product of Hampton City Schools.. She received a Bachelor's in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Master's in Education both from Old Dominion University. Her teaching career started as an 8th grade Physical Science Teacher. After spending 5 years as a recruiter for a staffing agency in Northern Va, she returned to Hampton and landed a 5th grade teaching position. In 2009 she began her career in technology, first as an ITRT, then as a Teacher Specialist. She has enjoyed the continuous emerging technology trends which keep the position fresh and ever-changing, but most of all she enjoys working with her team, teachers, and learning from the best: our students!

Erik Breede
Old Dominion University
Lee Belfore is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He received is Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech, his Master of Science in Engineering from Princeton University in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from The University of Virginia. He has over 30 years experience teaching Computer Engineering at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Belfore's current research interests include artificial neural networks, machine learning, artificial intelligence, robotics, low power digital electronics, embedded systems, novel computational architectures on field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). He has 90 scholarly publications and his work has been funded by NSF, NASA, EVMS, the Virginia Innovation Partnership, the US Navy (Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren), and the US Army (CCDC Ground Vehicle Systems Center). Dr. Belfore is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Virginia.

Melissa Rasperry
American Institutes for Research
Melissa A. Rasberry, Ed.D., is a Senior Technical Assistance Consultant for Education at American Institutes for Research (AIR). Her primary responsibilities include serving as the principal investigator (PI) or co-PI for a portfolio of projects funded by the National Science Foundation. In her role as PI of CS for All Teachers, she provides guidance about best practices for the virtual community of practice, cultivates collaboration with computer science advocates across the country, and creates online learning opportunities for computer science teachers. She is also co-PI for the Advancing Methods and Synthesizing Research in STEM Education project, overseeing the development of research methods webinars and ensuring the tenets of effective online adult learning are followed. She formerly served as the co-PI for the Teacher Assessment Literacy for Exploring Computer Science (TALECS) project, which was housed within the CS for All Teachers community and offered virtual professional development for teacher leaders interested in cultivating their assessment and data literacy.

Ravi Mukkamala
Old Dominion University
Ravi Mukkamala received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Iowa in 1987. Currently, he is a professor and chair of the department of computer science at Old Dominion University. Dr. Mukkamala has been involved in research and development in the areas of: computer privacy and security, distributed database systems, multicast communications and security, performance analysis, and privacy-preserving data mining. He has published more than 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. He has received several research grants, as a PI or Co-PI, from several agencies including CIT, Center for Secure Information Systems (GMU), CHKD, IAT, IBM, Jefferson Labs, NASA, NIA, NRL, Sun Microsystems, and U.S. Army. He is currently working in the area of blockchain technologies.
Seth Black
Hampton City Schools
Seth is serving in his second year as the Director of Career and Technical Education with Hampton City Schools. Previously, he taught Business/IT courses for twelve years, serving as CTE instructional leader, and CTE Advisory Council teacher representative for five years. . He has attended many professional learning experiences including, National Integrated Cyber Education Research- Cyber Education Discovery Forum, ACTE Vision, VACTE, VACTEA, NCAC, Academies of Nashville Site Visits, Ford Next Generation Learning Elevate, and 2018 LEAD Peninsula program. These experiences have provided him with great insight on the importance of powerful partnerships for great community-connected learning.
Janet Brunelle
Old Dominion University
Janet Brunelle is a senior lecturer who is responsible for teaching undergraduate courses and serves as Assistant Chair. She primarily teaches the senior level capstone courses and serves as the lead faculty member for the two-course sequence; CS 410/411W Professional Workforce Development I and II. Ms Brunelle’s other primary responsibility is to manage and support undergraduate programs.
Janet was selected to be part of the first cohort of Enstminger Fellows who are dedicated to the establishment of a culture of entrepreneurship at ODU. Subsequent to this one year appointment, the team of Fellows continue to work together to foster interdisciplinary opportunities, courses, events and outreach.

Doris Orgain
Hampton City Schools
Having started in the workplace as a Systems Analyst in the insurance industry, Doris career switched and became a teacher with Hampton City Schools in 2007 and worked at Paul Burbank Elementary School for 5 years as a 4th grade teacher. Trying to marry her love of technology with her teaching skills, Doris became a Technology Support Specialist in 2015 with HCS before transitioning to her current position as a Curriculum Integration Technology Teacher (CITT). Providing teachers and students with assistance or training that make their jobs/lives easier is Doris’ passion.

Lindsey Horner
WHRO
Lindsey Horner works at WHRO Education as the Manager of eMediaVA, the largest digital content library and interactive platform for teachers in Virginia. Lindsey travels all over Virginia to train teachers on the benefits of using eMediaVA’s digital media collection in their classroom to engage students and enrich their learning experiences. Before joining the WHRO Education team, Lindsey worked in education at the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, and taught social studies at Woodside High School in Newport News.

Karen Sanzo

Karen Sanzo is a Professor of Educationanl Leadership at Old Dominion University and has worked at the institution for fourteen years. Currently she is the Provost Fellow for Design Thinking and Strategic Planning. Prior to joining ODU she was a middle school mathematics teacher and an elementary school administrator.

Yvette Lee
Henrico County Public Schools
Yvette studied biology and art theory in Seoul, South Korea. When she moved to the states, she started her teaching career as a piano teacher, followed by teaching mathematics for 5 years at Patrick Henry and Tucker HS. Yvette now teaches computer science at Tucker HS. She introduced and began building the CS program at Tucker with CS clubs: "CS for ALL" started in June 2018 which grew into 3 CS clubs in one year (CS for ALL, CS HS, and Girls Who Code). She will be piloting a new CS course this fall for the Henrico county. She and her CS clubs have hosted numerous CS events - Hour of Code Ambassadors, CS Festival, CS Talk, CS Fair, and Middle School outreach where students learned and shared the passion for Computer Science in the community. She has been a consultant for E3Mpower and a CS instructor during summer in South Korea for 2 years. She is a two-time recipient of the STEM Grant Award and was selected to attend GenCyber at UVA and JMU.

Rachel S. White
Virginia Beach City Public Schools
Rachel is the Coordinator of the Governor's STEM and Technology Academy at Landstown High School with Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Previously, she taught AP Physics and Dual Enrollment Astronomy in VBCPS. She also served as the Instructor of Physics for College of the Albemarle. She holds a Master's Degree in Physics from the University of Utah and undergraduate degrees in Applied Mathematics and Physics from Old Dominion University. In her new role as Coordinator of a STEM academy, she is rebuilding and re-branding the program of study with the collaboration of community partnerships and stakeholders. She strives to incorporate multiple pathways for all students in STEM fields while ensuring rigor and relevancy are at the heart of the academy's mission and vision.

Janie Everett

Janie Everett is the Educational Technology Manager at WHRO Public Media, where she supports school divisions looking to integrating technology into K-12 curriculum. Janie started her career as an elementary school educator with experience in first, second, and fifth grades. She then spent several years as an Instructional Technology Specialist for Virginia Beach City Public Schools before joining the WHRO team.
