Making applications towards mentoring opportunities will help mentoring programs run efficiently, connect students with someone to help them transition to college, and actively move them towards on-campus engagement. It keeps the engagement on ODU's campus, and keeps the efforts of mentors in use.
Potential in class work or homework from the Freshmen First Year-Long Program could include applying to these programs. Students could work on the application together, review each other's papers, or go to Writing Center.
Potentially, those who are accepted into the program may do a presentation on the meaningful experiences or information they've received from their mentoring experiences. This can encourage other freshmen to apply during the next application round.
Aside from applying to already present mentor programs, a select amount of individual upperclassmen can come to present on their majors, their jobs, on campus, their projects, etc. This can happen in groups or entire class presentations as well.
