Our team has worked well for this project, as we have both freshmen and sophomores on our team. This brings perspectives from currently being a freshmen to having recently finished freshmen year. We also come from different backgrounds, with students from around ODU and students from further away, even out of state. This provides a four very different perspectives on ODU and the community. We all start as freshmen, but some come to ODU knowing people and others don't. We want to help bridge the gap between high school and college so students will feel more welcome and at home at ODU. With our program, if more incoming freshmen are able to have the best experience possible and choose to stay at ODU for all four years then our goal will be completed. We want to share information and build a community feeling that we wished we received when we were incoming freshmen. Our team is driven to make a change for incoming freshmen for the years to come.
Freshmen could have more events specifically for them as well as be involved in events throughout the year. To create a greater cohesive community for ODU freshmen, we simply have to create the environment for it. More yearly freshman events and get-togethers could provide more chances to make new friends. We are interested in making everyone feel more included as a school. Old Dominion University is a great university with great opportunities and amazing people. We are a diverse group of people. While that is amazing, it also potentially creates community cohesion issues. We can work through this by creating a Freshmen course that curbs this issue early on.
