FAFSA FRENZY @ OHS 03/25/24

OHS IS AMONG MISSOURI SCHOOLS THAT HOST AN ANNUAL FAFSA FRENZY,  AN EVENT THAT HELPS OUR STUDENTS COMPLETE THE FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID.  THE FAFSA IS THE PRIMARY FORM USED BY FEDERAL, STATE AND INSTITUTIONAL FINANCIAL AID PROGRAMS IN DETERMINING AN INDIVIDUAL'S ELIGIBILITY FOR GRANTS, LOANS, WORK-STUDY, AND SCHOLARSHIPS.   STUDENTS ATTENDING THE FAFSA FRENZY CAN REGISTER TO WIN A $500 JOURNEY TO COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP.    OHS COUNSELORS AND A FAFSA REPRESENTATIVE ASSISTED SEVERAL FAMILIES IN ATTENDANCE COMPLETE THE FAFSA.

NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELORS WEEK  - FEB 5-9

OHS Counselors concluded a week long celebration of school counselors and the Kansas City Chiefs by serving  hot cocoa to students during lunch shifts on Friday, Feb. 9th. 

Lex La-Ray Tech Center (Lexington, MO)

Dec 7, 2023 - A representative from Lex La-Ray Tech Center presented information to OHS students about vocational /technical school program offerings:

Jan 10, 2024  -  Sophomores 2023-24 will have an opportunity to tour Lex La-Ray,  Lexington, with submitted parent permission form.

Jan 24, 2024  -  Deadline to apply for 2024-25 enrollment in Lex La-Ray program.


Summit Tech Academy (Lee's Summit, MO)

OHS hosted a presentation for students on Summit Technology Academy in January.  STA enrollment is available to juniors and seniors pursuing an accelerated academic experience.  Working in a college environment, students deeply experience an industry-aligned curriculum meeting both industry and university standards.  OHS partners with STA to provide an opportunity to guide student academics into high-demand careers.  

OHS ThanksGIVING Food Drive Supports Odessa Community

November 1-15, 2023

OHS staff & students collaborate with Odessa Community Service Center by hosting an annual food drive to assist local families.  OHS collected grocery essentials to prepare 64 Thanksgiving meals.  Heartfelt thanks to all who gave support!

Amanda Smith's Bulldog Block Class were top givers with 8 meals!

What a great day for a random act of kindness.  OHS Counselors kindly served students & staff cotton candy treats during lunch shifts to celebrate Kindness Day.

ACADEMIC AWARD CEREMONY
Friday, 09.29.23 

Academic Letters earned during the 2022-2023 school year were presented to 152 eligible students meeting requirements of a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and no semester letter grade below B-.  First year recipients received an academic letter, bar and certificate.  Subsequent years qualifying students received a bar and certificate.
