"Communication is a skill that you can learn. It's like riding a bicycle or typing. If you're willing to work at it, you can rapidly improve the quality of every part of your life." Brian Tracy
"...numerous ways people communicate with each other over the Internet, including e-mail, instant messaging (IM), feedback on blogs, contact forms on websites, industry forums, chat rooms and social networking sites" (PC Magazine).
When looking at online communication, we define it differently from other forms of communication (verbal, written, etc.) because it is the exchanging of information via the Internet.
Therefore, online communication may also include conversations that take place on Skype or in video chats. The basic distinction between online communication and other forms of communication is the inclusion of the Internet and technology to correspond to an individual or disseminate information to others.
Online communication can be used for personal communication to write to others and exchange information (e-mail, IM, etc.).
Online communication can be used for mass communication to disseminate information to customers or the general public (websites, social media, etc.).
Personal Communication
Personal communication occurs between individuals.
It can take the form of an email which answers a client's question, an instant message that quickly informs a customer of something important, or a video chat that allows a client to speak with you.
The important differentiation between personal communication in your private life and personal communication in a business setting is etiquette.
In a person's private life they may use terminology that is unacceptable in a business environment and it is important to remember that even though the communication is personal, it is still professional.
