What is Leadership?
Leadership is the ability to guide, inspire, and influence others toward achieving a common goal. It involves making decisions, communicating effectively, and setting a positive example through actions and attitude.
There is a distinct difference between the role of leadership, and being an effective leader. In fact, organizations can often have ineffective leaders in leadership roles, and highly effective leaders who are influencing and inspiring others without the title or authority.
As you will learn in these modules, effective leadership and effective leaders follow a mindset that promotes the success of the team around them, and help foster an environment of success by leveraging the skills of others.
Definition of Leadership:
1) The office or position of a leader; recently assume the leadership of the company
2) Capacity to lead; a politician who lacks leadership
3) The act or an instance of leading; leadership molds individuals into a team
4) Leaders; the party of leadership
“As we look ahead in the next century, leaders will be those who empower others”
~ Bill Gates
Think about the three questions Roselinde Torres asked in the video, and think about her follow up questions as we delve into this topic. Now think of the leaders you have around you; regardless of the context; leading at home, in the workplace, at school, a team, a committee or group. Work through the three questions while thinking about that leader in your life.
Things to consider:
Where are they looking to anticipate change?
What is the diversity measure of their network?
Are they courageous enough to abandon the past?
Record your answers in your Student Workbook.
