Consider your current pathways and list 3 things below you can personally do to break the chain of infection in your field of interest or current job.
1.
2.
3.
State the job/field of interest: ________________________
Create a diagram that could be posted in the workplace that represents at least one of your suggestions for breaking the chain of infection.
Consider the importance of delivering a strong message using a graphic that is appropriate for the workplace environment you have in mind. For instance, if it is social distancing, the images may include individuals that are wearing hard helmets because it is related to the construction field.
Part One:
Please watch this TEDtalk by Raymond Wang a Canadian student who developed an innovative solution to dealing with Infection transmission on airplanes.
Part Two:
What type of mode of transmission is Raymond addressing with this solution? Do you think his idea would work? Explain with examples from Module 2.
Finally, can you think of an area in industry (Construction, Food Services, Manufacting, etc) where Raymond's ideas could also apply. Please explain.
Part One
Consider the following workplace scenarios and recommend at least three strategies for reducing transmission.
Individual works on a construction site.
Volunteer at a long-term care home delivering snacks and reading materials to the residents.
Working at a local bicycle shop as a bike mechanic.
Individual working in the bakery at a grocery store.
Part Two
Consider your current workplace or planned pathway. Suggest strategies that would limit exposure. What do you feel will be the challenges when making these changes?
Conduct an experiment and record your findings to represent the benefits of social distancing. Take pictures or video of your experiment that supports your results.
Part One:
1) Don a pair of PPE gloves using the directions provided in the module. The gloves can be given to you by your teacher, found around your home, or purchased from a local store.
2) After donning, the gloves dip your hands in either:
a) dish soap with bubbles
b) water first and then flour
c) a bowl of pudding
3) Now, follow the steps provided in Module 4 for how to remove the gloves without getting any of the item you placed on them in step #2 on your hands. If you are unsuccessful at keeping the material off your skin, please consider trying the activity again.
Part Two:
Consider the activity you just participated in, answer the following questions and submit them to your teacher:
1) Was it challenging following the directions when you put on the gloves for the activity?
2) What did it feel like wearing gloves for this activity?
3) When you removed the gloves, was it challenging to keep all of the material off your skin? Did you have to repeat the activity?
4) Consider your pathway and in which situations gloves or other PPE may be worn. How does learning about PPE inform your role in this job sector?
