The students were given 1 D-Cell battery, two wires, and one small lightbulb. In pairs, students tried to figure out how to light up the bulb. The student tried connecting the components in several ways, and found out that the wires need to be touching the base and side casing of the lightbulb for the bulb to light up.
Some students also figured out how to light the bulb using only one wire!

We learned about the "Ring of Fire" by plotting volcanoes on continent maps.
After we plotted the volcanoes, we joined the maps together to see the "Ring of Fire" connection.
We discussed, "If you wanted a volcano to appear in your region, where would you live? If you don't want a volcano to appear in your region, where would you live?"

Physical Weathering investigation 9/7
Soil Types Investigation 8/30
The students were given 4 soil samples. After identifying the rock types and humus in the soils, the students used their observation notes to guess/match the 4 soil types to four different terrains: desert, forest, river delta, and mountain. Then we added water into the vials to watch the differently sized rocks settle, and the humus float at the top.
