High School students can register for any Reach Ahead course in which they have the prerequisite. Students are eligible to take one reach ahead course only and cannot take a second course including elearn, credit recovery or cooperative education.
Students who have been unsuccessful in a course can register to recover the missed credit. A minimum of 30% in the original course is recommended to participate in the summer credit recovery program and must be approved by their homeschool staff.
This non-credit program supports newcomer students who are in high school in their acquisition of language as they move through their English as Second Language programming.
Please note that Grade 11 SHSM students requiring summer coop as part of their plan must consult with their guidance counsellor and SHSM Lead teacher prior to completing an application.
As a part of this program, Indigenous students will have the opportunity to earn a Reach-Ahead credit, or recover some credits, depending on the information on their status sheets. Students will meet curriculum expectations in a variety of ways including: land-based learning, cultural teachings, experiential learning, field trips, arts and crafts, through elder teachings and so much more! This program is like a day camp for Indigenous students where you can earn credits.
