Youth Services Bureau

The YSB can support you and help you work through any issues or difficulties you are experiencing that may be affecting your life and your emotional well-being. They have a team of experienced mental health experts that provide a range of welcoming, non-judgmental services for you and your family. They are equipped with resources and can also provide you with access to food, shelter, safety, and other health services. Click the link below to explore some programs that might be useful to you.

Other Programs Offered by the YSB:

  • Spectrum LGBTQ Community Youth Group is a program for members of LGBTQ+ youth community in Ottawa. This group meets weekly and offers opportunities to make connections, discuss important issues, and share personal experiences.

  • Purple Sisters Youth Advisory is a program rooted in passion and commitment to increase the awareness about the issues facing young women in the community.

  • Ethno-Cultural Youth Advisory is a community program that reaches out to immigrant youth and other ethno-cultural youth and their families. They help to reduce barriers and by identify the needs of immigrant communities in Ottawa. Youth and their families can contact this advisory for crisis help and support.

Kids Help Phone

Kids Help Phone is a trusted mental health service available 24/7 for youth in crisis. Kids help phone provides anonymous online and telephone counselling for youth who need someone to talk to.

To be connected with a First Nations, Inuk, or MĂ©tis crisis responder text FIRST NATIONS, INUIT, or METIS to 686868 or through Facebook messenger.

For black youth text RISE to 686868 or through Facebook messenger.

Dave Smith Centre

The Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre offers addiction services and treatment for ages 13-21. They treat symptoms from mild to moderate. Your able to admit to the centre if you have used a substance within the past 30 days. Dave smith youth treatment also provide family services to those who are having family issues with addiction.

1 Call 1 Click

1 Call 1 Click is a simple way for youth and families to access to the right mental health and addiction services and care when they need it. They help provide care of any level to those who need it. 1 Call 1 Click also helps navigate the system for children, youth and families who are struggling with their mental health.

Resources for Indigenous Youth

Wabano Centre

The Wabano Centre Mental Wellness team combines Indigenous practices with new therapy methods. The Wabano Centre has mental health programs created for youth that create a safe space to explore inner strength and resilience. Youth have access to therapists, art therapy, sand-tray therapy, and cultural activities.

Counselling Connect provides free in-person or phone counselling services for Indigenous youth that uses Indigenous and Western approaches to healing. This service is available for children, youth, adults, and families in Ottawa and the surrounding area that identify as Indigenous.

Hope for Wellness

The Hope for Wellness Help Line provides immediate mental health counselling and crisis supports to Indigenous peoples across Canada. Counselling is available in English, French, and on request, in Cree, Ojibway, and Inuktitut.

Resources for African, Caribbean, and Black Youth

Under the Acacia Tree

Acacia Youth Wellness is for youth ages 12 – 29 who are experiencing mental health challenges and community members who are interested in learning more about addressing mental health in a culturally appropriate way. The Acacia Youth Wellness Program offers virtual workshops, crisis intervention, counselling, and service referrals.

Black Youth Helpline

The Black Youth Helpline is a multicultural helpline for children, youth, and their families. Black Youth Helpline specifically responds to the need for a Black youth specific service and helps to provide access to professional, culturally appropriate support.

Support Line for ACB Communities

The Support Line for African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) Community operates from Monday-Friday and is designed for anyone who identifies as African, Caribbean and Black in the community. They offer practical and emotional support, advocacy, and health coaching that can help you with your well-being.

Resources for Immigrants & Newcomers

Ottawa Newcomer Clinic

The Ottawa Newcomer Clinic provides healthcare services to newcomers in Ottawa. The Ottawa Newcomer Clinic team consists of physicians, registered nurses, mental health counsellors, and other specialists. The clinic provides counseling in Arabic, Creole, French, and Spanish and has interpretation support available in over 250 languages.

Walk-In Counselling Clinic

The Walk-In Counselling Clinic offers mental health counselling services in English, French, Arabic, Spanish, Somali, Cantonese and Mandarin at various locations. The walk-in sessions are free to all members of the community and no appointment is needed.

OCISO Counselling

OCISO's Counselling Program is prepared to provide counselling services to the immigrant and refugee populations in Ottawa. The program respects cultural needs and preferences and specializes in migration and culture-related issues. Services are offered in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Tigrinya, Farsi, Dari, Nepali, Hindi and other languages.

Kind Space

Kind Space gives youth of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions in Ottawa's communities personal and peer support so they have courage and confidence to be who they are. They provide support groups, safe spaces, resources, information and support to anyone who needs it.

Youthline

The LGBT Youthline is a Queer, Trans, and Two-Spirit youth-led organization that supports the experiences of youth across Ontario. They offer peer-to-peer confidential and anonymous support on a variety of topics including mental health, relationships, and community referrals.
