An IP phone uses Voice over IP technologies (the Internet) allowing telephone calls to be made over an IP network. IP Phones save the district money and facilitate communication. Most teachers have Grandstream Phones. Administrators and administrative assistants often have Cisco Phones. All buildings have PBX (extension servers) and have been assigned a code.
Within a building, users only have to dial the extension to call; to dial to another building you can use school code and extension (you don’t have to dial the phone number for the school). This is called 7 digit dialing and all phones should be able to dial phones on all other PBX systems by dialing 7 digits (PBX prefix + 4 digit extension). For example, any phone on other PBX servers should be able to dial extension 1303 (Brian Felker) by dialing 2001303.
Each school publishes a list of extensions. Contact the front office at your school for a complete list of classroom extensions. Extensions are also listed for each teacher in the district directory.
