Tier 2 = students who have a past history of moderate chronic absence (missing 10% or more of school) or face a risk factor (e.g. a chronic illness like asthma) which makes attendance more tenuous and need a higher level of more individualized support in addition to benefiting from the universal supports.
Let's cultivate a culture where every student strives for consistent attendance and feels celebrated for their progress!
Guide each student in setting personalized goals: We can work with individual students to define specific attendance goals and realistic timeframes for achieving them.
Build a supportive partnership with families: Let's collaborate with parents to establish shared attendance goals and timelines that reinforce the importance of being present.
Engage students in their daily attendance story: Encourage students to actively participate in tracking their own attendance, promoting accountability and understanding.
Weekly celebrations of presence and progress: Let's recognize students who demonstrate good attendance and those who show meaningful improvement each week, fostering a positive atmosphere.
Develop student-centered strategies: By considering age, interests, and other individual factors, we can create effective and engaging strategies to support improved attendance.
Attendance Incentive Plans: Create an individualized attendance success plan with the student. Provide positive reinforcement using the student’s preferred incentive when the student makes progress towards the goal(s).
Nudge Letter: Send a letter home to the student’s family or caregiver with information about their child’s absences. Communicate the importance of attendance, include the child’s attendance data, and compare the child’s records with other students’ attendance.
Individualized student success plan that includes attention to attendance (Establish specific individual goals and time provide recognition as they are met)
