MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) is a framework for creating the conditions for every student to thrive.
It brings together academics, behavior, social-emotional learning, attendance, mental health, and family/community supports into one coordinated system.
MTSS starts with a strong foundation for all students and uses data to identify strengths, needs, and barriers early. When additional support is needed, schools respond with increasingly targeted support—matching the right support, at the right time, at the right level of intensity.
At its core, MTSS helps schools move from “What’s wrong with this student?” to “What does this student need—and how can our system respond?”
Some students struggle with academics. Others struggle with behavioral challenges. Still others struggle with both. How do schools respond to students with challenges or struggles that interfere with their ability to learn?
