Extra tools for student learning

How can I ensure that my child is only working on their work and not going on other apps or sites?

As completing school at home online is a different world for students it is good to keep the time consistent daily, make sure that it is a place that is well supervised and has not many distractions (i.e. T.V., gaming systems).

On an iPad or iPhone

Use Guided Access

Once you have put them on the app they are supposed to be on go to settings and turn on Guided Access under Settings. You can set a passcode too and time limits. This will only allow them to do work on this app.

Use Screen Time

Under settings you will see Screen Time. Use Downtime and set the time that you would like your child to complete work. Then go to Allowed apps and only allow the Google Classroom, Google Slides and Google Docs apps to be available. Then set a passcode that your child won't break but you will remember. Now during the hours you have set for downtime, your child will only be able to access the apps under the allowed apps section. Anything where the - sign is will be greyed out.

Computer

Under settings on your web browser you can restrict sites that are blocked or not.

You can also on Google Chrome go to the Chrome Web Store and install a Chrome extension to block certain websites.

Android devices

Download the Family Link for children and teens app from the Google Play Store. Follow the set up wizard to set limits on apps.
