Gifted & Talented and Enrichment Opportunities
The following opportunities are available to identified students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade as indicated:
Classroom Differentiation (Grades K-8)
Differentiated instruction occurs in the regular classroom setting. Differentiated instruction includes, but is not limited to, modifications in assignments and materials, alternative forms of assessment, various grouping strategies, small group and independent work. The enrichment needs of gifted and talented pupils can be met through a wide variety of activities and teaching strategies. Appropriate curricular and instructional modifications will be developed for identified gifted pupils in regard to content, process, product, and/or learning environment.
Enrichment
In-class Enrichment (Grades K)
The gifted and talented teacher will push-in to Kindergarten classrooms to provide students with enrichment opportunities at least once per month. These activities will allow us to observe students and how they interact with each other and with the more challenging activities. These observations will assist in the gifted and talented identification process for Kindergarten students at the end of the school year.
Pull-out Enrichment (Grades 1-4)
Students performing above grade-level in a specific content area will be provided opportunities to enhance their learning by meeting with the gifted and talented teacher and/or reading specialist. The enrichment activities will provide opportunities for students to participate in challenging activities in their area of strength. Participation in this program is flexible and students will be re-evaluated after the administration of each benchmark assessment. These opportunities are for students that have been identified as benefiting from additional instruction, and are not involved in the gifted and talented program.
Pull-out Enrichment (Grades 5-8)
The gifted and talented teacher will develop various enrichment activities connected to specific topics throughout the school year. Students meeting the criteria through benchmark assessments will be offered the enrichment opportunity and, if interested, will work on the task for approximately a marking period. Participation in this program is flexible and students will be re-evaluated after the administration of each benchmark assessment. This opportunity is for students that have been identified as benefiting from additional instruction, and are not involved in the gifted and talented program.
Gifted and Talented
Pull-out Gifted and Talented Program (Grades 1-8)
Identified students will be given opportunities to participate in higher level thinking activities/units/projects with academic peers outside of the regular classroom. These learning experiences will address the academic and affective needs of gifted learners. Students will meet with the gifted and talented teacher 1-2 times per week. Students must qualify through the identification process to participate in this program. Click HERE for more information about the identification process.
Additional Opportunities (Grade K-8)
Special Topics: Special topics or enrichment seminars may be arranged by the gifted and talented teacher. These enrichment seminars provide opportunities for interaction with professionals to develop career awareness in students and to identify and clarify student interests.
Contests and Competitions (Grades 5-8): Opportunities for participation in contests and competitions may also be made available for gifted and talented students, when appropriate.
