Our outdoor education courses are offered in grade 10, 11 and 12. Students participate actively and regularly in a wide variety of outdoor-related activities. Students learn to demonstrate an understanding of factors that can influence and support their participation in outdoor pursuits now and throughout their life.
Activities include:
CANOEING (FLATWATER AND WHITEWATER)
CAMPING
CYCLING (ROAD AND MOUNTAIN)
INDOOR ROCK CLIMBING AND HIGH ROPES
NAVIGATION (MAP AND COMPASS)
SKIING AND SNOWSHOEING
HIKING
Each year, we build upon outdoor education principles, continue to develop competence in the various outdoor pursuits, and allow for a deeper investigation of the benefits of being outdoors.
Course options:
Grade 10: PAD2O; no prerequisites
Grade 11: PAD3O; no prerequisites
Grade 12: PAD4O; no prerequisites
*All outdoor education courses are non-gendered
These courses is designed to provide the opportunity for students to gain competency in outdoor and adventure skills while at the same time developing a sense of responsibility for the state of our environment and how to enjoy it responsibly. Through activities that require effective group dynamics and trust among peers, the course aims to develop important team work and leadership skills. Following ministry curriculum, the students develop an idea of what it means to follow a healthy, active lifestyle through outdoor activities, as well as develop decision-making and leadership skills.
