This page contains links and ideas for Social Studies activities you can do at home to support our learning in the clasroom this year. It has been organized in the basic order of what we will be learning, but can be used at any time during the year.

GRADE 3

LIVING AND WORKING IN ONTARIO

Practice making observations and inferences about the world around you. For example, go for a walk and talk about the kinds of buildings you see; ask questions such as "how might people use that building?"
talk to your learner about the ways that where we live in Ontario can affect the things that we are able to do in our everyday lives
if you've ever visited other parts of Ontario, you can share pictures and stories of the things you did while you were there
if you've visited or lived in other parts of the world, you can share pictures and stories of the things you did while you were there
discuss how the changing seasons affect the activities we can do in a region
discuss how the natural resources in an area will affect the kinds of jobs people have in that region
learn together about the physical regions of Canada/Ontario

Begin talking about your learner's timeline - what are the big moments that have shaped their lives so far? Consider sharing your timeline with them to show how much more time you've been alive.
