Welcome to Hilson Avenue PS!

Our school is an Ottawa District School Board (OCDSB) school located in an established residential area known as Westboro. Hilson is located on unceded, unsurrendered Algonquin territory. We thank the Algonquin Nation for hosting us and recognize their enduring presence on this land.

Hilson is home to around 300 students from a diverse range of backgrounds and a close knit community. Hilson is very much a community school, with an active and engaged parent council and community who work together with Hilson staff to provide students with a well rounded learning experience.

At hilson we offer:

-Bilingual Full Day kindergarten (2 year program)

-Grade 1 - 6 English program

-Grades 4 - 6 Middle French Immersion Program

-Grades 4 - 6 General Learning Program (GLP)

-Grades 4 - 6 Language Learning Disabilities Program (LLD)

This diversity of classes and programs enriches our learning and teaching experiences at Hilson. Hilson offers the Middle French Immersion program beginning in grade four. Students who attend Middle French Immersion have the same expected graduation outcomes in French Immersion as their peers who begin in grade 1. By delaying French Immersion until grade 4, students have a chance to master concepts in English in grades 1 -3 before continuing onto French.

Hilson is fortunate to be attached to the Westboro Children's Center (WCC) which offers extended day programming for students in Kindergarten to grade 6.
