Ukuleles

Pupils start learning to play the ukulele in Year 5 and this continues into Year 6. We believe that having the opportunity to learn an instrument is important because it enables pupils to:

• Understand how an instrument makes sound, including volume and pitch.

• Play as part of an ensemble with their classmates.

• Learn to read music, including chord notation.

• Experience performing to others.

• Take part in the annual Ukulele Festival with other Leigh Academy Trust primary schools.

• Be inspired to continue learning an instrument as they move to secondary school.
