Pupils start learning to play the ukulele in Year 5 and this continues into Year 6. We believe that having the opportunity to learn an instrument is important because it enables pupils to:
Understand how an instrument makes sound, including volume and pitch.
Play as part of an ensemble with their classmates.
Learn to read music, including chord notation.
Experience performing to others.
Take part in the annual Ukulele Festival with other Leigh Academy Trust primary schools.
Be inspired to continue learning an instrument as they move to secondary school.
