HK ERT
Horowhenua - Kapiti Emergency Response Team (HK-ERT) are a dedicated team of specialist Maori Wardens who are trained with skills in Emergency Response, Emergency Preparedness, Evacuation, Civil Defence, Emergency Welfare & Support and who are available 24/7. HK-ERT work alongside Te Upoko Emergency Response Team (TU -ERT) as the collective district ERT providing assistance to Civil Defence and other allied agencies and services during natural disasters, emergency situations and other emergent events.
HK-ERT are the Horowhenua - Kapiti ERT and can be deployed to respond anywhere within the Te Upoko District Between Horowhenua, Wairarapa & Wellington. HK-ERT can also be deployed nationally to assist in other regions and areas as and when required.

Emergency Response Team Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
Are HK-ERT solely operated by Maori Wardens?
A) No our membership consists of people from all walks of life and skill sets although 80% of our membership are Maori Wardens we do have some members who volunteer for or are employed by allied agencies such as Fire, Ambulance, Corrections
Do I need to become a Maori Warden in order to join HK-ERT?
A) No you do not need to become a Maori Warden however the door is open and we would love to grow our membership on both sides both ERT & Maori Warden however we know the commitment to becoming a Maori Warden can be significant and it is something we discuss with each new applicant.
Is there a commitment to attend regular trainings?
A) Yes there is a commitment that you will attend all or 80% of all trainings within your first 6 months probation period this is to ensure that we can help you reach the required competencies and gain the necessary confidence to operate within the Emergency Response Environment
What roles are available for me if I am unable to be involved in front line deployments?
A) Our ERT's have multiple positions available such as Response Team Members, Major Incident Support Members, Back of house Members, Admin, Management and Committee Members.
We have multiple positions available and any assistance big or small to our services are greatly appreciated
Are ERT members paid?
A) ERT members are not formally employed however TU-ERT does endeavour to cover any lost wages and provide reimbursment where applicable. TU-ERT provides uniforms, vehicles, trainings, support and deployment meals & accommodation.
