Project Title
Dehliz
What type(s) of collaborators are you seeking?
Seeking South Asian actors! Preferably Hindi-speaking but not a requirement. Here are the 8 roles we are seeking:
RUHI
Female, 18–21, South Asian. Ruhi is a bleeding heart, grappling with grief following the passing of her grandfather. Caught between adulthood and childhood grief, Ruhi is observant, sarcastic when deflecting pain, and deeply bonded to her grandfather. She appears functional on the surface but is quietly unraveling as her family prepares to sell the house after his death.
*This role requires emotional range, stillness, and the ability to play internal conflict without melodrama. Actor should be comfortable with Hindi dialogue
PIA
Female, late 40s–early 50s, South Asian. Ruhi’s mother. Practical, busy, and trying to hold the household together during a crisis. She throws herself into the logistics and responsibility of packing and moving.
*Not cold — just exhausted. This role needs subtlety. Preferably Hindi-speaking.
DADI
Female, 60s-70s, South Asian. Ruhi’s grandmother Dadi is a gentle soul - recently widowed, she handles her grief with a quiet resilience. She is practical about moving on, focusing her energy on packing up the house she shared with her husband.
*Actresses should bring warmth, humor, and emotional transparency - capable of shifting between lightness and heartbreak in the same breath. Preferably Hindi-speaking.
DADA
Male, 60s-70s, South Asian. Dada is Ruhi’s adorable grandfather. Loving and playful, he had a close bond with his grandchildren - Ruhi in particular. After his passing, he keeps reappearing in the house, going about his daily activities, not yet ready to leave.
*Actors must be grounded and present, even in silence - and bring a quiet humour to the character. Preferably Hindi-speaking.
NEEL
Male, to convincingly play 6–8 years old, South Asian. Ruhi’s younger brother. Playful, affectionate, and full of chaotic energy. He doesn’t fully understand death but feels its weight.
*A parent or guardian will be allowed on set at all times. Preferably Hindi-speaking.
AARYAN
Male, early 20s, South Asian. Ruhi’s older brother. Calm, steady, and emotionally contained. He copes by organizing and helping. Has a quiet humor and tenderness with his younger brother. A grounded presence who contrasts Ruhi’s emotional volatility.
*Preferably Hindi-speaking.
RAJ
Male, 40s-50s, South Asian. Ruhi’s uncle.
*Preferably Hindi-speaking.
VIKRAM
Male, 40s-50s, South Asian. Ruhi’s father.
*Preferably Hindi-speaking.
Project Description
This is an NYU Thesis Film written and directed by Anusha Lara.
