By the end of this unit, students will be able to:
Spell and identify borrowed chords, tritone substitutions, augmented triads, and common-tone diminished 7th chords in examples from the repertoire and explain their typical usage in progressions.
Compose progressions and harmonize melodies using the above chords.
Recognize examples of descending 3rd and 5th sequences in examples from the repertoire and identify the chords using Roman numerals.
Compose a descending 5ths and 3rds sequence given a starting key, and write the progression in 3- or 4- voices.
