Connect Scholars to Knowledge Resources
Ensure the success of all users in finding and accessing rich and relevant content
To ensure that users can discover, get, use, and share our rich and diverse collections, our discovery environments must be accessible regardless of researcher location, device, or search approach and regardless of the format or nature of ownership of the content they encompass. Our content includes materials we own, license, or share through consortial agreements, and encompasses material generated by the Division of Libraries, faculty and content creators across the University. Our discovery environments should allow for easy use and reuse of our resources, including open access materials. As we continue to intensively collect born-digital material, we will responsibly steward these resources by ensuring that we capture them at the highest possible quality and provide for their long-term preservation and use. We need to be transparent about how we design our systems and organize knowledge for users. Our overarching commitment is to ensure that our users are successful in gaining access to resources they need.
Outcomes:
- Users successfully locate, access, and use content—whether licensed, locally held, or consortially shared—using methods that suit their environment and methodology.
- Our discovery environments are inclusive and support multiple platforms, devices, user locations, and accessibility needs.
- Our digital infrastructure supports and facilitates the complete life cycle for digital content: acquisition, storage, management, description, use, reuse, sharing, and long-term preservation.
- The structure and organization of our discovery tools are transparent to our staff and easily demonstrated to users.
