SIMT 2022
WELCOME & ORIENTATION SITE
WELCOME & ORIENTATION SITE
It's come to our attention that the university orientation has been mentioning a specific SIMT orientation that will occur prior to the program. In actuality, many summer programs have a specific orientation prior, but others including SIMT do not. We will handle introductions, facility tours, orientation, and program overview when we meet at 10:00am EST on Monday June 27th on the 6th Floor of the Steinhardt Education Building. The entrance to the Steinhardt Building that students should use is at 35 East 4th Street. Note that the entrance to the education building is located directly west of a purple awning for the entrance to the Frederick Loewe Theater, which also bears the 35 East 4th Street address. Please monitor your inbox through this coming weekend for additional preparation information.
Over this coming weekend, students will be receiving several key pieces of information including the detailed schedule for week 1, access to the program website, and several other reminders about university compliance and policies. It's important that students monitor both their NYU NetID email as well as the personal email used during application to the program.
NYU's building access is very strict when it comes to your clearance for COVID-19. Be sure that you have completed all clearance documents with regard to immunization and testing.
If you have not already, please review the block schedule for an overview of our daily activities. Students will receive a much more detailed breakdown with access to the program website.
As the start of our program approaches, please utilize this site as a resource for preparing. Updates will be posted here on a regular basis until we kick things off on June 27th! Students will receive a number of emails prior to, during, and following the course, but much of it will be posted here duplicitously, mainly so that parents and guardians can be made aware of useful information. SIMT will have its own detailed website for students which will serve as our home base for daily operation, but we invite both students and parents to bookmark this site. As we move forward, important links, FAQs, and much more will be shared right here.
As your review this site, forthcoming updates, and email communication, please use Spencer Shafter (spencer.shafter@nyu.edu) as an initial point of contact.
NYU is a very large entity with a lot of moving pieces. As you prepare for the program, we want to ensure that you've taken care of all university requirements for your attendance on campus. Please review the sections below to ensure that you have addressed all of them. If you have any questions, please reach out to spencer.shafter@nyu.edu.
If you require university housing during SIMT, you should have applied and enrolled in housing by this time. If for any reason, you require housing in order to attend and have not enrolled, reach out to spencer.shafter@nyu.edu at once!
All students attending summer programs at NYU are required to be vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19. The Student health center should have been in communication with you. Non-compliance will result in de-enrollment, so be sure to follow the guidelines shared with you for providing proof of vaccination.
On Friday, June 24th, the MPAP Office will host a remote orientation for all students attending summer programs. Be on the lookout for an invitation and instructions for accessing from the MPAP office.
This is your key to everything at NYU! While in the program you'll have access to a number of resources and tools and all of them must be accessed behind NYU's dual-factor security. Additionally, you will be sharing materials with other students while in the program and your privacy is our top priority. All program emails leading up to day one will be sent to both your personal and NYU emails. All emails after the start of our program will be sent only to your NYU account. In order to fully participate on day one of your session, you must complete this process. Follow the step-by-step guide below to get started.
The Program Entrance Survey is a mandatory part of your preparation. It serves to help our staff evaluate things like your computer, access to technology, instruments, and other basic information.
Click the button to the right to see the 2022 Block Schedule. This schedule is meant to provide students and parents with an approximation of our activities for planning purposes. There are several elements of the program that will dictate changes to this schedule during the program. This schedule will be removed on June 27th, after which students should adhere to the detailed program schedule that will be available on their program website. Schedule updates will not be published to parents/guardians, and emergency contacts. Before and during the program, parents may always reach out with questions.
SIMT operates with a comprehensive website at the core of everything (Example page at right - each session & program has its own website). This website will be made available to students on the weekend before the session of your program begins.
On the program website, you'll be able to see a detailed breakdown of what's going on day to day. Each day of the program is broken into blocks for both synchronous and asynchronous activities. (Image of example daily schedule page at right)
As we approach the start of the programs, we'll introduce you to the core staff and some of our amazing guests that you'll be meeting while with us this summer. All of our core staff are both educators and active professionals working in different avenues of the music and audio industries. Stay tuned to the welcome site for more information about them as well as the other NYU faculty that you'll meet along the way!
