The Global Green Fellowship is a competitive program created by NYU Los Angeles with a purpose of empowering and equipping one student per semester to advance sustainability at the site.
The fellow receives $1000 of budget to execute two projects, along with a $1000 stipend for their work. In our first run of the fellowship, we were funded by a micro-grant from the NYU Office of Sustainability. We have since funded each fellowship through NYU LA’s annual budget from the Office of Global Programs.
Our hope is that our fellows broaden their capacity as leaders while encouraging other students to engage in sustainability work, placing sustainability goals directly in the hands of their cohort.
They accomplish this through two projects: one community-based, one creative or research-based.
Created artwork and electronics from recycled materials
Facilitated a cooking class with an indigenous chef focused on local ingredients
Led student excursions to local green spaces

Organized a zero-waste event alongside businesses in LA’s Little Tokyo
Green Fellow Cheyenne Vil directed a short documentary on the 2025 LA wildfires.
Green Fellow Annika World produced this composting how-to video.
Our inaugural Green Fellow Sophia Winkler sourced recycled materials from LA’s motion picture costume industry to construct by hand a quilt depicting a map of the city.
