Achieving Candidacy for the DMA in Music Performance

For full-time students, the candidacy exam for the DMA in Music Performance occurs in the fourth semester of study and consist of two essays related to the student’s primary area and/or sub-specialization. Students must have completed or be in the process of completing at least 9 credits of sub-specialization courses by the semester of candidacy. The evaluating committee includes two members of the DMA governance committee, who evaluate the essays and meet with the student for an oral defense. Students are graded with a Pass, Deferred Pass or Fail.
